Position Summary
The Benefits Sales & Strategy Consultant is responsible for selling Peoplease’s comprehensive employee benefits programs to new and existing business clients. This includes identifying client needs, developing tailored solutions, and building strong relationships to drive sales, revenue growth, and client retention. The role involves consulting in the areas of employee benefits and retirement services while staying up to date on industry trends, compliance requirements, and regulatory changes.
The Consultant possesses deep expertise in employee benefits, including health insurance and retirement plans, and uses logic and strategic thinking to proactively address client needs and solve complex challenges.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to function as a remote employee in a distributed work team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Client Acquisition & Relationship Management
- Prospect and secure new business opportunities while expanding and nurturing existing client relationships.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with clients, brokers, and strategic partners to ensure high satisfaction and long-term retention.
- Present tailored benefit solutions that align with each client’s unique goals and workforce needs.
Strategic Sales & Revenue Growth
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans designed to meet or exceed revenue and growth objectives.
- Prepare and deliver persuasive proposals, cost analyses, and benefit recommendations that support client decision-making.
Benefits Consulting & Plan Optimization
- Provide expert guidance on benefit strategy, plan design, and carrier selection to optimize client outcomes.
- Drive client renewals and initiatives that increase benefit plan participation and employee engagement.
- Analyze underwriting methodologies across all lines of coverage to identify negotiable elements; liaise directly with underwriters as needed.
- Assist clients in meeting Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliance, reporting mandates, and long-term strategic planning.
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Ensure health and welfare plan compliance by staying ahead of evolving industry regulations and legislative developments (e.g., HIPAA, FMLA, COBRA, ACA, Form 5500, DOL).
- Offer consultative expertise to support regulatory adherence and mitigate risk exposure for clients.
Operational & Client Service Excellence
- Manage and contribute to the development of master plans and lead client renewal processes to ensure accurate execution and alignment with objectives.
- Support resolution of claims, billing, and administrative issues, providing responsive and effective communication with stakeholders.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of internal and external training sessions and benefits webinars during initial enrollment and Open Enrollment periods.
Innovation & Vendor Strategy
- Actively participate in evaluating and selecting new vendors, broker partnerships, and technology solutions to enhance quoting, servicing, and client support infrastructure.
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support broader business goals and contribute to departmental and organizational success.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3+ years of sales experience in insurance or employee benefits.
- Active 2-15 Life & Health Insurance License (required).
- Strong understanding of employee benefits programs including health insurance and retirement plans.
- Expertise in health & welfare compliance (HIPPA, COBRA, ACA, FMLA, 5500, DOL regulations, etc).
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proven ability to build trust and deliver exceptional customer service.
- Adaptable to change; demonstrates flexibility in approach and method.
- Highly organized, punctual, and dependable in meeting appointments and responsibilities.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires regular communication and occasional travel to support the distributed workforce. The role will primarily function indoors but may involve working in varying temperatures or outdoor environments as needed.
