Position Summary
Peoplease is seeking a Workers Compensation Underwriting Manager to underwrite and lead our workers’ compensation underwriting team. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of workers’ compensation underwriting principles, a proven track record in managing underwriting teams, and a strong commitment to ensuring compliance and risk mitigation.
This role requires the ability to manage and execute the coordination of multiple projects within required timeframes and expectations; demonstrated excellence in communication skills; be able to inform both orally and in writing; working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Demonstrate the ability to perform detail-oriented tasks; interact, coordinate, follow up, and effectively communicate with Underwriting team members.
Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to function as a remote employee working in a distributed team.

- Develop and execute workers’ compensation underwriting strategies aligned with organizational goals and market trends
- Facilitates sales submissions and quotation processes
- Lead and mentor a team of underwriters, providing guidance and support in achieving departmental targets
- Continuously evaluate and enhance underwriting processes for efficiency and accuracy
- Implement technology solutions to streamline workflow and enhance data analysis capabilities
- Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing feedback
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to determine appropriate coverage levels and pricing
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies
- Collaborate with workers compensation insurance carriers to negotiate and secure favorable terms and conditions for our clients
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging risks in the workers compensation insurance market
- Work closely with Account Managers to provide underwriting support and address client inquiries
- Communicate underwriting decisions effectively and provide guidance on risk mitigation strategies
- Prepare and review various management reports with a focus on operational and financial performance
- Maintains, prepares, and presents a variety of reports to provide underwriters, management, and vendor partners with key metrics for business unit analysis
- Ensure that all Company and Department processes are in compliance with insurance laws, regulations and Company specific strategies to ensure accuracy and fairness
- Other duties as assigned to assist the general purpose of the position’s function
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Degree focused on data analysis such as Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Risk Management, Insurance or Data Science or equivalent work experience is required
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in workers’ compensation underwriting and pricing analysis/profitability management or similar work experience
- 3+ years in a leadership role preferred
- In-depth knowledge of workers compensation insurance and underwriting principles
- Demonstrated experience in driving process improvements and leveraging technology for underwriting efficiency
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building skills with carriers and other stakeholders
- Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities, with a keen attention to detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and program management software (e.g., MS Project, Trello)
- Strong business acumen with a strategic mindset
- Exceptional organizational and leadership skills
- Preferred experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong numeracy skills for making informed decisions and solving problems
- Commitment to conducting business in an ethical manner
- Self-starter and quick learner who can promptly learn information and develop solutions to positively impact business outcomes with minimal oversight

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role requires regular communication and may require occasional travel to support the distributed workforce. The role will primarily function indoors but may involve working in varying temperatures or outdoor environments as needed.
