PEO Senior Compliance Paralegal

Position Summary

The PEOPLEASE Group is looking for a qualified Senior Compliance Paralegal to join our team. This role will be responsible for developing and implementing processes to support HR and Legal Compliance strategy to ensure alignment with the latest federal, state and municipal regulations and best practices; strategically execute on both internal and external communication initiatives; and work with other departments to implement operational changes required by state or federal legislation. This position reports to Associate Counsel.

Candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to function as a remote employee in a distributed work team.

  • Assists in leading and developing major compliance programs, processes, and initiatives.
  • Develops framework for tracking compliance programs, and maintains internal controls and policies designed to ensure organizational compliance needs are met
  • Monitors changes to all employment regulations and reporting on HR compliance controls and metrics
  • Conducts regulatory horizon scanning on a continuous basis to identify changes in federal, state, provincial and local regulations and employment laws that affect the company and its clients
  • Monitors known risks, internal control effectiveness, and the remediation of process deficiencies
  • Oversees the day-to-day delivery of Compliance programs and leading projects and initiatives
  • Assists in providing guidance and counseling to leadership in the areas of HR compliance, employee relations, employment and labor laws
  • Maintains the strictest confidentiality in all work aspects and ensures continuing data integrity
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of federal and state laws, and company policies and procedures which assists with reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Proactively communicates with internal and external clients
  • Utilizes metrics and business data to make informed business decisions
  • Work with HR business partners, legal, and organizational leaders to identify solutions, propose next steps and partner with key stakeholders on the implementation process
  • Share information and tools with HR, Legal, Compliance and Operations in a timely fashion to facilitate and drive compliance with local, state, provincial, and federal requirements
  • Assist in designing a platform to communicate and disseminate important compliance information to key stakeholders
  • Keep up with the latest regulatory and compliance trends, best practices, and requirements to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Partner with the Client Success personnel to facilitate the development, review, update, and drive execution of the company's federal, provincial, state, and local HR compliance and safety policies and programs
  • Research and analyze data and prepare reports on compliance initiatives and outcomes
  • Serve as a trusted partner and resource to key stakeholders to increase awareness, educate, and partner to create processes that reduce compliance risk
  • Handle crisis communication situations with professionalism and transparency, developing and executing communication plans to mitigate reputational risks and address stakeholder concerns
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a Paralegal.
  • Experience with federal, state, and local employment laws such as Title VII, the FLSA and state counterparts
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to understand the business and industry, which will assist with developing, executing, and sustaining strategies
  • Ability to understand the PEO Culture and act as a change agent to evolve the organization through initiatives and systems
  • Project management, compliance, legal, HR or Business Operations, HR business partnering experience a plus.
  • Proven ability to interact, present and influence at all levels in the organization
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and leadership skills
  • Collaborative team member who will thrive in a fast-paced, growing environment with constantly changing priorities
  • Successful track record of leading and implementing enterprise scale compliance initiatives
  • Ability to solve routine or complicated problems effectively to drive projects to completion
  • Adaptable and flexible in a variety of situations
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Word, Excel, and HRIS systems (Prism a plus)
  • Practical and creative problem analysis and resolution skills

  • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple assignments and prioritize work assignments as needed
